Cricket Tournament at Wadala Gym, Mumbai

Wadala Branch of Talwalkars organized Cricket tournament for members & staff on Sunday, 28^th October 2007 at Purandare Stadium (10 mins away from the gym.) This tournament is much-awaited annual event since last 5 years.

9 teams of male gym members & 1 staff team, 2 ladies teams and more than 50 non-player members participated in the tournament to cheer their friends (and co-gym members). The tournament had all ingredients of a gala affair with live commentary, DJ music, drums & bands (and much more) to cheer the participants and the crowd. Each side had 5 overs to score runs.

There were 9 teams with the 11 members in each team. The different teams were; Explosive, Strength, Performance, Power, Speed, Flexible, Pace, Reaction, Endurance, Intense, Rocking. (Everyone wore the Talwalkars
T Shirt to show the team spirit)

The day started with first match at 9 am and came to an end at 6.30 pm with the closing ceremony. We had some delicious breakfast and lunch as accompaniments to some thrilling matches during the day

The first match was played between staff team led by Binny Vs Speed led by Prateek Patel. Staff team won by a big margin and also saw the first and only half century of the tournament by staff captain Binny. Staff team won the tournament and lifted the winner’s trophy when they beat Reaction (Abhijeet Bidaye’s team) by 36 runs.

And the Best fielder - Neville Barsiwalla of Reaction team.

Ladies Match was won by Rocking (Arnaaz Irani) against Intense (Sandhya Lodha) by 5 wickets.

It was a wonderful experience, more so because of the great response and participating we got from members even though the staff team won the revolving trophy. We thank all our members, staff, colleagues, organizers who helped us make this event successful, and look forwards to next years match.
