Soya cooking contest
Soya yes we all know it. But do
we really use it?? No. The reason behind this no
is that, we really dont know various dishes that can
be made from Soya. And this made us at Thane Eden woods branch
of Talwalkars plan a cookery contest with Soya as primary
them.
Soya is rich in proteins and minerals and is the most economical
source of vegetarian proteins. Soya milk is similar to cows
milk but much lower in fat content. It is also used as a substitute
for milk in children suffering from lactose intolerance. Soya
flour is also used for making bread and bread sticks. Soya
is not only rich in proteins but also contains a high amount
of vitamins and minerals.
The contest began with participants displaying
their dishes, each one of them was beautifully garnished.
Al of us were surprised to see that so many variations can
be made out Soya.
The program started with an introductory speech,
which followed by the welcoming of the guests. Among our prestigious
guests, one was a well known dietitian, Mrs. Vaishali Marathe,
who has 9 years experience in the field of dietetics and is
presently working at Wokhardt hospital. Our other guest was
a television personality, Poorva Gokhale, who has worked in
many Marathi and Hindi serials, one of which include Kahani
Ghar Ghar Ki and is presently running a production house of
her own. Later the judges tasted all dishes. By the mean time
all our enthusiastic contestants were sharing their experience
about the contest and how they got into it.

Soon the judges finished their evaluation; they
shared their views regarding soya and the dishes made by the
contestants.
Finally the moment arrived, for which we all were waiting.
Everybody was eager to know about the winners. Surprisingly
the 1st prize winner was a male member, Mr. Shreyas Murdeshwar
who had prepared delicious Soya chunks and tofu tikka and
2nd prize winner Mrs. Jayashree Shukla who prepared spicy
Soya veg Manchurian.
Then the judges were felicitated by giving a small token of
appreciation. After the judges left, all the members tasted
each others preparations and shared the method of preparation
and enjoyed themselves.
Members
visit our gym everyday for exercise, but this was the time
they got to interact and make friends. At the end of the day
we could satisfactorily say that the competition was a huge
success, only because of the participation of large number
of enthusiastic and energetic members and their innovative
dishes.
